O mercado de pimenteiras no Brasil passa por grandes modificações, sendo crescente a exploração de novos tipos de pimentas, incluindo aquelas de interesse ornamental. Com o plantio em ambientes protegidos, aumentou a procura por híbridos com maior produtividade e valor comercial, de forma a tornar rentável o investimento nessa infraestrutura de produção. As sementes híbridas são obtidas a partir do cruzamento de linhagens endogâmicas que por sua vez, são obtidas por autofecundações sucessivas. The post-production quality of ornamental peppers can be shorted due to exposure to ethylene. The concentration of this phytohormone at 10 µL/L induces leaf, fruit and flowers abscission, ripening of climacteric fruits, organ senescence, seed germination and seedling growth. We evaluated the correlation between pepper morphoagronomic traits and resistance to ethylene on ornamental peppers. Two genotypes, one resistant (UFPB 132), a susceptible (UFPB 134), and two hybrids (DR x PN) were utilized (76 x PN) to assess the susceptibility or resistance to ethylene. ABSTRACT The cultivation of potted peppers as ornamental plants has increased considerably throughout the planet. In Brazil, this crop is more recent and still lacks cultivars. In order to increase the available variability and obtain new cultivars, the interspecific hybridization is very useful in add a desirable attribute that occurs in one species to another species, resulting in a new cultivar of agronomic interest.
